The 51st Golden Horse Awards Nominees Announced

TAIPEI, Oct 1 – Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival Executive Committee announced today nominees of the 51st Golden Horse Awards.

BLACK COAL, THIN ICE receives 8 nominations, including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress, followed by BLIND MASSAGE with 7 nominations and KANO with 6 nominations.

Nominees for Best Leading Actor include CHANG Chen (BROTHERHOOD OF BLADES), CHEN Jian-Bin (A FOOL), LIAO Fan (BLACK COAL, THIN ICE), Masatoshi NAGASE (KANO) and Sean LAU (THE WHITE STORM). Local media are guessing whether Liao Fan will win another prize after capturing a Silver Bear for Best Leading Actor in this year’s Berlinale.

Nominees for Best Leading Actress are CHEN Shiang Chyi (EXIT), GONG Li (COMING HOME), GWEI Lun-Mei (BLACK COAL, THIN ICE), TANG Wei (THE GOLDEN ERA) and ZHAO Wei (DEAREST). Local media put lots of attention in the competition between Gong Li, Tang Wei and Zhao Wei.

Also announced is the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year Award Jimmy HUANG, for his continuous efforts in producing Taiwanese films with great diversity, which expands the realm and imagination of the industry. This year Jimmy has produced PARADISE IN SERVICE, KANO and CAMPUS CONFIDENTIAL.

Writer director Li Xiaofeng’s first feature NAZHA recieves two nominations: Best New Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Joan CHEN, two-time Golden Horse Best Leading Actress, will lead the jury along with final-stage jury members including Stanley KWAN, Aaron KWOK, CHEN Po-Wen, HWARNG Wen-Ying and Stephen FUNG. They will join other shortlist-stage jury members to vote for the winners.

All nominated films will be screened in Golden Horse Film Festival starting from November 6. The awarding ceremony will be held on November 22 at National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei City, live broadcast by TTV with Red Carpet starting from 17:30.  Mainland China, the United States and some other countries can also see the event online live.
